The Edge mobile wallet has announced that Ripple (XRP) and Monero (XMR) will finally be supported on its platform in response to heavy demand by customers.
The Edge cryptocurrency wallet has rapidly been gaining popularity in the cryptocurrency community, perhaps because it is one of the few legitimate digital currency wallets that support mobile platforms. The wallet already supports some of the major cryptocurrencies such Ethereum (ETH), Bitcoin (BTC), Bitcoin Cash (BCH), Dash (DASH), Zcoin (XZC), Feathercoin (FTC), and Litecoin (LTC).
“We’ve listened closely to our community over the last few months and found a strong demand for these currencies on the Edge platform. Both communities are different but they face the same issue: how do we hold and use our currency? Edge is proud to announce that they can now find that option here,” pointed out Edge CEO and Co-founder, Paul Puey.
Both Monero and Ripple are among the most popular cryptocurrencies in the market and as such, there has been noteworthy demand for them to be added to the crypto wallet. The two cryptocurrencies are characterized by different use cases: Ripple boasts of low transaction barriers, high transaction speeds and liquidity making it an ideal for monetary transactions while Monero is ideal for anonymous transactions courtesy of RingCT.
The support for Monero and Ripple on the Edge platform will be made possible through its 1.2.0 update version. The wallet already features support for Segregated Witness (SegWit) transactions for Litecoin and Bitcoin. Meanwhile, its new update will allow users to receive, hold or send the Monero and Ripple.
The new features to be available through an app update
The new updated version will also allow users to buy or sell Bitcoins from anywhere in the world using credit cards courtesy of Simplex integration. Users will also be able to sweep private keys from Dash, Litecoin, Bitcoin Cash, and Bitcoin. The update will also support Quantum (QTUM) and allow a slew of other features.
In one of his statements, Puey noted that there are quite a number of solutions in the market that allow investment and price exposure in Monero and Ripple. However, no options are provided to make it possible for the cryptocurrencies to be traded from a secure wallet controlled by the user without a custodian.
The Edge CEO also added that the decision to bring Monero and Ripple on board follows the rebranding of the cryptocurrency wallet fromAir Bitz to Edge. He also pointed out that having ShapeShift built into the platform is advantageous because it will allow users to easily exchange one cryptocurrency for another with ease.
Meanwhile, Erik Voorhees, the CEO of ShapeShift stated that his firm was happy to be working together with Edge to develop forward-minded developments that also demonstrate the result of their efforts. He also noted the MyMonero team was also excited to be part of Edge’s library of supported cryptocurrencies.
The Edge mobile wallet platform is available is accessible on both Android and iOS devices. This makes it highly useful cryptocurrency owners because they can easily access their cryptocurrencies with ease and from any location.
